The Gulf Coast Humane Society is a no kill shelter that does not euthanize for space. As a result, any dog or cat can reside at the GCHS until they are adopted.
Ambassador pets have a raised adoption fee that helps lend a paw to other pets looking for a forever home.
What makes an Ambassador pet? An Ambassador pet can include any highly adoptable dog or cat of any age or breed.
What is a sponsored pet? Any dog that has been a resident of GCHS for more than 1 year, the only adoption fee will be the cost of the 6 month heart worm prevention.
Heart worm prevention prices (6 month supply)
0-25 pounds $20.00
26-50 pounds $25.00
51-100 pounds $30.00
What Our Adoption Fees Include
All of our adoptable animals are up to date on vaccinations, spayed/neutered, de-wormed, microchipped, and free of parasites such as fleas and ticks.
Upon adoption, new pet parents are sent home with their new dog's first 6 months of heartworm prevention, city license, a starter bag of H-E-B Heritage Ranch food, and a voucher for a free wellness exam at participating veterinarians.
If you fall in love with a heartworm positive dog, we provide treatment at no extra cost to you!
The Adoption Process
Our adoption process is in place to assist you in finding the perfect match for you and your family. We ask that you follow these steps to ensure a smooth and rewarding adoption experience:
Research different breeds and breed mixes to see which personalities match your lifestyle and activity level.
Come in and meet with our staff who will help introduce you to the dogs that best fit your home and lifestyle. Bring in the entire family to ensure everyone gets along with each other. If you already have a dog, schedule a meet and greet to ensure your four legged family members also agree with the adoption!
** IMPORTANT FACT **
If you already have a dog or cat at home, we will need your
most recent vet records for your pet! By bringing in this
paperwork, you help the adoption process go much faster and
get that much closer to having that gorgeous pet in your arms!
Once your application is approved, paperwork will take 15-20 minutes. Please allow yourself ample time to complete the adoption process. All dogs weighing over 30 pounds require a home visit upon application approval.
