Buc Days K9 Court Rules and Conduct

All human and canine participants of the Buc Days K9 Court fundraising competition for the Gulf Coast Humane Society (GCHS) must adhere to the following rules and procedures.

By signing this form and participating in the Buc Days K9 Court (BDK9C) fundraiser you agree to all the terms, conditions, rules, and procedures.  Any violation can result in termination from participation in the fundraiser with all proceeds remaining with GCHS. 


Contest Rules:

  1. The winner of the BDK9C will be the dog that raises the most funds for GCHS and will be grated the title “Buc Days K9 Court Admiral” by GCHS.

  2. The runners up in order of highest to lowest moneys fundraised will receive the following titles and be inducted into the BDK9C: Buc Days K9 Court First Mate; Buc Days K9 Court Rapscallion; Buc Days K9 Court Buccaneer.

  3. All titles will remain with the winners of the 2017 BDK9C until the following year when new contestants are crowned.

  4. Participation and fundraising in the 2017 BDK9C will kick off February 1, 2018 and will end April 23, 2018.  Participants are welcome to sign up and begin fundraising at any time between February 1, 2018 and April 23, 2018.

  5. Donations must be made through Facebook (online) or in person at GCHS during open hours (Monday – Saturday 11am – 6pm and Sunday 12pm – 5pm) to be accepted as part of the competitor’s total amount.  To set up donations through Facebook please see page ___ “Guidelines for your BDK9C Facebook fundraising page.”

  6. The person who is campaigning online for the BDK9C dog contestant must be the dog’s legal owner.

  7. All donations must be submitted to GCHS by April 23, 2018 5pm to be counted in the total funds raised for the competition.  Any donations received by GCHS after 5pm on April 23, 2018 will not count toward the total funds raised for the competition, but will remain with GCHS.

  8. Any fundraising done for BDK9C at another organizations event must be approved by the event host.  The organization will need to give written permission and submit it to an appropriate GCHS staff for approval.

  9. Only monetary donations will be approved and count toward the BDK9C competition.  Any item donations will not be counted toward the competition totals.

  10. Checks must be made out to the Gulf Coast Humane Society.  The memo portion of the check needs to include the dog’s name and “BDK9C.”  If checks are not clear they will be taken as a general monetary donation and not documented under the contestants total funds raised.

  11. Once donations are made they are non-refundable and cannot be transferred between contestants.

  12. The BDK9C title cannot be used to fundraise for any other organization unless approved by appropriate GCHS staff.

  13. Funds raised by any contestant that voluntarily removes themselves or is forcibly removed by GCHS from the BDK9C competition will be used as general monetary donation toward GCHS.

  14. In the case of a tie, GCHs will hold a public Facebook poll to decide the winner.

  15. A mandatory court meeting for the 2018 BDK9C Admiral, First Mate, Rapscallion, and Buccaneer will take place April 25, 2018 at 5:30pm in the GCHS community room.

  16. Any court members are subject to dismissal by GCHS at any time with in the 2018 year.

  17. Court members will be considered ambassadors for GCHS and can be called upon to participate in any events, media, commercials, or advertising throughout the 2018 year.

  18. All media coverage for individual contestants or court winners must be approved by the GCHS executive director prior to filming.

  19. All participants of the BDK9C fundraiser give consent to GCHS to disclose the total amount of donation raised per individual.

  20. All participants of the BDK9C fundraiser give consent to GCHS to use any photography and videos that include participating owners, dogs, or information submitted by participants to use in any promotional capacity GCHS sees fit(ex. Website, social media, flyers, etc.).

  21. Participants are aware that in handling animals, personal or otherwise, and said animals being in close proximity to each other the risk of injury and physical harm does exist for both the animals and people involved.  Participants will release, discharge, indemnify, and hold harmless the GCHS, its agents, servants, and employees from any and all claims, causes of action, or demands due to any injury that may be incurred or sustained by their participation in any and all GCHS events and media appearances.

  22. The following individuals are not permitted to participate in the BDK9C fundraiser: GCHS Board members, any GCHS paid employees, any immediate family members to GCHS board members or paid employees (spouses, parents, children, siblings, in-laws, etc.), and/or persons living in the same households (roommates, etc.).

  23. Alumni of the BDK9C are eligible to participate in the 2019 BDK9C fundraiser as of Fall of 2018.


Dog Requirements/Rules of Conduct:


  1.   All dogs participating must be current on all vaccinations and at least 6 months of age by April 23, 2018 to become BDK9C Admiral, First Mate, Rapscallion, or Buccaneer.

  2.   All dogs participating in BDK9C are required to show proof of up to date vaccinations, microchip, current rabies vaccination, and spay/neuter.

  3.   All dogs participating in the BDK9C fundraiser will be in a public position and should have good manners in public (walk well on a leash, be approachable by strangers, and know basic commands for safety reasons).

  4.   Any dogs participating in the BDK9C fundraiser that display any type of aggression noted by GCHS will be subject to be removed from, refrain from attending public events, or be dismissed from the fundraiser.

  5.   All dogs participating in the BDK9C fundraiser must wear a collar and leash at all times at any GCHS event, media appearance, etc.

  6.   Any merchandise won by the BDK9C (robes, sashes, etc.) will only be worn at GCHS approved appearances.


Owner Requirements/Rules of Conduct

  1.   All dog owners must be willing to support and speak about the benefits of spay/neuter, heart worm prevention, adoption, and proper vet care while representing GCHS as part of the BDK9C fundraiser.

  2.   All dog owners of a BDK9C contestant will refer all shelter operation and policy questions to an appropriate GCHS employee.

  3.   All dog owners of the BDK9C winners must act in a professional manner throughout the reigning year and abide by the GCHS values of customer service, respect, and responsibility.

  4.  All dog owners of a BDK9C contestant will refrain from speaking about GCHS in a negative or inappropriate light in private or in public (including social media, vocal, in person, and written).  Subjects include but are not limited to GCHS staff, volunteers, procedures, and policies.

  5.   While representing GCHS and BDK9C, all dog owners are asked not to consume alcohol.

  6.   All dog owners will provide the following information as BDK9C contestants:  Full name, Cell Phone Number, Address, E-mail.  The information will be used by GCHS to contact for events, media appearances, interviews, etc.  All dog owners of BDK9C contestants are aware that sudden changes to events, media appearances, interviews, etc. can occur and will provide the most efficient forms of contact possible.


Guidelines for your BDK9C Facebook Fundraising Page To create a Facebook Fundraiser:

1.) Click Fundraisers in the left menu of your News Feed

2.) Click Create Fundraiser

3.) Search for The Gulf Coast Humane Society, then choose a cover photo and fill in the fundraiser details

Note: All fundraisers are public, so anyone on or off of Facebook can see them.


To access your Fundraiser daily from a desktop computer, you can find it in the toolbar to the left of your Timeline under “Fundraisers”. To access your Fundraiser daily from the Facebook app on your phone, you can find it by selecting “more” and then selecting fundraisers. 


Rules for your Fundraiser:

1.) The person who creates the fundraiser for the BDK9C dog      contestant must be the dog’s legal owner.

2.) When you sign your paperwork, you must provide the link and title of your Facebook Fundraiser. 

3.) The title of your fundraiser must include “BDK9C” and dog’s name

4.) No profanity or putting The Gulf Coast Humane Society in a negative light
